Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

It is by this means, by taking up into itself the noblest elements, that the soul is established in purity, and having fixed its aim on piety, the noblest goal of all, it uses this as its infallible guide and so acquires a definite purpose.

'By acting the proper part towards each,' he replied, 'and taking righteousness as your guide, as you are now doing with the help of the insight which God bestows upon you.'

For while Reason is the guide of the virtues it is master of the passions.

For in the day when God created man, he implanted in him his passions and inclinations, and also, at the very same time, set the mind on a throne amidst the senses to be his sacred guide in all things; and to the mind he gave the Law, by the which if a man order himself, he shall reign over a kingdom that is temperate, and just, and virtuous, and brave.

Assuredly, then, if an old man despised the torments unto death for righteousness' sake it must be admitted that the Inspired Reason is able to guide the passions.

Then, a great silence being made, let the deacon say thus: ADMONITION OF THE DEACON ON THE EUCHARIST [Lift up] your hearts to heaven. If any man have wrath against his companion, let him be reconciled. If any man have’ a conscience without faith, let him confess [it]. Let him be in everything as the eye of the Church, with fear admonishing," so that he may be an example to the people of piety Let him admonish thus: ADMONITION OF THE DEACON Let us arise. Let every one know his place. Let the catechumens depart. See [that] no one polluted, no one slothful [remain]. [Lift] wp the eyes of your hearts. The angels are looking on. For those who travel by sea, and those who go on journeys let us beseech, that the Lord may guide them with the right hand of mercy. For those who are persecuted let us beseech, that the Lord may grant to them patience and knowledge, and may bestow on them also a completed labour. For those who have fallen asleep from the Church let us beseech, that the Lord may bestow upon them a place of rest.
