The Letter of Aristeas

Pseudonymously presented as a letter from a Greek courtier, Aristeas, to his brother Philocrates; the real author was an unknown Hellenistic Jewish writer, likely of Alexandria, commonly dated to the 2nd century BC -- a century or more after the letter's claimed setting under Ptolemy II. A legendary account of how the Hebrew Scriptures came to be translated into Greek (the Septuagint) by seventy-two scholars.
