honor

Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

Fear the Lord, and honor the priest; and give him his portion, as it is commanded thee; the firstfruits, and the trespass offering, and the gift of the shoulders, and the sacrifice of sanctification, and the firstfruits of the holy things.

Then they read the law to him, but he persisted in intruding, exclaiming that he ought to be allowed. He said, “Even if they were deprived of this honor, I shouldn’t be.”

Some of those who were over the city, therefore, abhorring any approach to the city of piety, unhesitatingly gave in to the king, and expected to derive some great honor from a future connection with him.

So, having bestowed considerable sums of money upon the temples of the several cities, we proceeded even as far as Jerusalem, and went up to honor the temple of these wretched beings who never cease from their folly.

To outward appearance they received us willingly, but belied that appearance by their deeds. When we were eager to enter their temple, and to honor it with the most beautiful and exquisite gifts,

And he delivered him to the people on the day before the unleavened bread, their feast. And they took the Lord and pushed him as they ran, and said, Let us drag away the Son of God, having obtained power over him. And they clothed him with purple, and set him on the seat of judgment, saying, Judge righteously, O king of Israel. And one of them brought a crown of thorns and put it on the head of the Lord. And others stood and spat in his eyes, and others smote his cheeks: others pricked him with a reed; and some scourged him, saying, With this honor let us honor the Son of God.

And honor shall be turned into shame, And strength humiliated into contempt, And probity destroyed, And beauty shall become ugliness.

For then they chose (not) for themselves this time, Which, beyond the reach of anguish, could not pass away: But they chose for themselves that time, Whose issues are full of lamentations and evils, And they denied the world which ages not those who come to it, And they rejected the time of glory, So that they shall not come to the honor of which I told you before.'

Had honor, since they were the earliest race.

Shall they have honor, since they were a race

Imperishable honor always first,

In equal honor with the citizens;

Nor will to honor him; but images

Of mortals thou didst honor Therefore now

Honor the All-Father's name, and let it not

And mind of the Most High, shall honor much

Nor pay they honor to the works of men

With water cleanse, and honor only Him

Because they would not honor piously

And honor justice and oppress no man.

Have wandered and with senseless soul we honor

But what God gave for faithful men to honor;

Because of honor, which was first assigned

But thee shall glorious children honor much

And honor the unconscious dead with thrones?

When she with royal honor has been crowned;

Nor honor them with prayers, nor with the smells

With soothing psalms and songs that honor God,

Who honor God and shun idolatry.
